Defence School Mentor Program

The Defence School Mentor (DSM) plays a vital role in supporting school children from military families. These students often face challenges such as frequent relocations, parental deployments, and the emotional impact of a parent’s absence. The DSM provides targeted support to help children cope with these unique stresses and ensure their well-being.

At Estella Public School, the DSM offers both emotional and educational support. They act as a liaison between the school, parents, and external organisations, ensuring that students receive the necessary resources and interventions. By developing strong relationships with students, the DSM creates a safe, supportive environment where children can express their feelings and concerns. This role is crucial in helping students adjust to new schools and communities, ensuring that they feel a sense of stability and continuity in their education despite the frequent changes in their lives.

The DSM also works closely with teachers to identify and address any academic challenges that might arise due to the impact of frequent relocations and work with families to gain additional support in these areas.

The DSM ensures that military children have the tools and support they need to thrive both emotionally and academically here at Estella Public School.
